- Something that might surprise people: “I collect a lot of different art.”
- OBX business owned: Outer Banks Rum Cakes (“Started when our two daughters, Lindsay and Jennifer, left for East Carolina University. It was our new baby, so to speak.”)
- Sue has worked with the North Beach Sun since 1997. “I loved every minute,” she says. “It was a great job after my divorce. While raising two daughters, The North Beach Sun enabled me to be with my girls and never miss a game, and it helped me meet new clients who later became friends.”
- Talent of which she’s most proud: The ability to listen and communicate. “What I learned about being in a military family and moving every year was it wasn't the place that was home, but my family was home.”
- Something that might surprise people: “I won a leg contest at the Jersey shore when someone approached me to enter a beach competition. The prize was an assortment of summer goodies, including a bathing suit and sunglasses!”
- Following her mom’s death, Sue started the Little Red Mailbox project on the Outer Banks. She says, “In my grief, I kept hearing my mom say, ‘Sue, when you feel sad, help someone.’ I called the Town of Kill Devil Hills to discuss my idea about installing (at a beach access) a little red mailbox with a journal kept inside, inviting anyone to write a message of hope. I thought they would place me on hold and say, ‘There is a dreamer on line two,’ but to my surprise, they embraced my idea!”
- In July of 2014, the first Little Red Mailbox was placed at Glenmere Avenue Public Beach Access in Kill Devil Hills. “We now have 19 Little Red Mailboxes across America. There are many different stories about why a community needs a Little Red Mailbox,” Sue says, “but the common thread is Hope. This project is what makes me most happy.”

- Something that might surprise people: “I once co-wrote a political comic strip that traded under the names ‘Demockracy’ and ‘Serf City.’ In the early days of the Internet it was rated as a Top 10 Humor Site by Internet Life and Yahoo! Magazines, and was occasionally carried in The Washington Times.”

Work experience/personal history: Bart and Jana grew up on the Outer Banks and both are ECU graduates. They specialize in web marketing and website design, and they have been providing on-line marketing services since 2007.

Talent of which Bart is most proud: “I would have to say it’s a learned skill of adapting to change. In this industry, the only thing you can count on is change.”

Something about Bart that might surprise people: “I was a three-time scholarship winner of the Lost Colony Arts School in the late ‘70s and toured the region as a puppeteer in the stage performance ‘Lost Colony Puppet Show.’ With the Kitty Hawk Boy Scouts, I camped among wild boars at Penny's Hill before the four-wheel-drive area became a vacation home destination.”

Something about Jana that might surprise people: “I’m a descendant of Thomas Jefferson. I have the largest conch shell collection in Dare County (since Newmans Shell Museum closed) – and they were found, not bought.”
